Gargoyles icon

For a while, I've been wanting a romantic Gargoyles icon to use for my wedding plans posts. I've searched and searched for a good icon of Elisa and Goliath dancing, but found none. So I decided to make my own. I used several of mplayer's command line options to scale an episode and turn a portion of it into a gif. The results:

(5 frames per second)

(1 frame per second)

The original animators clearly meant the scene to loop, as you can see Elisa's dress in both the beginning and end of the clip.

Unfortunately, I only have Tivo versions of the episodes to work with. I have the Disney DVD that contains that episode, but due to DRM complications, I can't actually play it in Linux. Boo!

The other unfortunate thing is both files are too large to use for LJ icons. LJ limits icon size to 40KB, and the 1 frame per second version is 46KB. The 5 frame per second one is 260KB. I can play around with it in gimp, eliminating redundant parts of the frame, but it's really not going to get much smaller and still look nice. A project for the weekend, I guess.

A second option is to just make a static icon. Mplayer will dump the frames into a bunch of jpeg or png files, and I can work with that. I still think the animated version would have been cooler. *le sigh*
