Frustrations with Google Calendar

All I want is for Google Calendar to display my events, and let people see my public calendar.

I keep my calendar on my iPAQ, and I can easily sync the calendar to my laptop and upload it into my Google Calendar. Originally, this involved deleting all events in my Google Calendar, and re-importing the iCal file. If I just import it, the events get duplicated. *du-oh*

I was excited to discover that Google Calendar added a "subscribe to public calendar URL" feature. I had hoped that meant I could just publish my calendar on minilop.net and Google would automatically update it. Then I could write a script to automatically pull my calendar whenever I plugged in my iPAQ and avoid the whole delete-calendar-reimport cycle.

Unfortunately, it has issues. Apparently it only updates the public calendars every 30 minutes, and there's no way to force it. It also doesn't allow you to change the viewing permissions on the public calendar. The default is that I can see the events, but no one else can. That would be useful default if you're trying to protect someone's privacy, but it's not useful in my case.

At this point, I'm only using Google Calendar to display my calendar. I never edit my calendar through Google calendar, because it can't handle recurring events correctly. So I end up making all my changes to my calendar via my iPAQ.

I guess all I really need is a script to turn my iCal format into html and display it on minilop.net. Google Calendar is just too broken right now.
